In Matthew 10:37-39 Jesus gives three ways to test our love/devotion for him. I labled them the test of preference.
Jesus said, “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it."
1. Do I prefer others over him? "father, mother, son or daughter"
2. Do I prefer pleasure or comfort over him? "refuse to take up your cross"
3. Do I prefer self over him? "cling to your life"
Lord, I commit to seek you first in my life today giving you preference over others, pleasure and comfort, and self. Amen.
